SpellBound is a highly-detailed spell-check add-on for Mozilla Firefox, and unlike other spell-checker systems and even Firefox itself, this program corrects spelling in multiple languages and has an enormous English dictionary.

The SpellBound Add-On for Firefox

Anyone familiar with Firefox knows that the system has a relatively decent spell-checker built into its framework. Of course, many words you think are spelled correctly end up listed in red, thanks to the system's limited dictionary. Don't fret about this; it's probably Firefox in the wrong, and you will subsequently have to add the word to your dictionary. SpellBound, which is an add-on for the browser, is a spell-checker that doesn't make those common mistakes. It has a much larger dictionary and is quite intuitive, even when it comes to colloquialisms rather than strict by-the-book dictionary words.

SpellBound is a good add-on if you're seeking a more comprehensive program to help with your spelling. It isn't going to help with your grammatical structure, so you'll still need a program like Word or Grammarly to assist in that department. But for a comprehensive spell-checker that's far superior to what Firefox offers standard, SpellBound is certainly worth its salt.

Features of SpellBound

The best thing about SpellBound is that it’s a completely free add-on. You simply have to download the small 60 KB program and then you can access it any time you decide to use Firefox. There have been some issues reported with the way the program works on Windows 7, but recent Firefox updates should have that pretty much taken care of (at the time of this review). Once the program is installed, you will find that it works in pretty much the same way the browser’s default checker works. However, you can adjust the options in the Add-On menu, changing the font and color of misspelled words if you wish.

Whenever you’re using Firefox to type, you can right-click on your text to access SpellBound. This is where you can add a word to your dictionary if you’re happy with the spelling, or you can ignore the word or choose from a list of possible corrections. The default language is American English, but this can also be changed to UK English, Spanish, Italian, and a host of other languages.

The program itself is good if you write frequently and need a spell-checker on a browser. However, it's not as good as using a word processing program, and it's probably only going to take up space if you're just an occasional writer with Firefox. The browser’s default system isn't necessarily bad.
